XML と RDF
Stefano's Linotype ~ A No-nonsense Guide to Semantic Web Specs for XML People [Part II] の XML vs. RDF で挙げられている4つの比較のうちの最後:
last, but not least, the XML model does not make the relationships between elements explicit and uniquely addressable.
ふむ。どうも「RDFを使わずに単なるXMLだけでもとりあえず表現できそうなモデルを、なんでわざわざRDFにするのか」という疑問が (RDF/XML構文ってめちゃくちゃ冗長な感じだし) なんとなくモヤモヤとあったのですが、多少すっきりしました。要素間の関係の意味を明示的かつ一意に表現すること、ツリーの形に依存しないこと、グローバルなリソースの識別を可能にすること、といったあたりでしょうか。
